Panorama Room at Silver Legacy Casino Resort in Reno NV, October 2018

I did notice that there were alot of full pay Video Poker machines in the Silver Legacy though if you like to play that game. We were surprised but we felt if we talked to a supervisor we could straighten it out. To sum it up, as long as we were losing money we were more than welcome there, but if we should be lucky enough to win some back, we were no longer welcome. I pointed out that had their confirmation email included the rates as most other hotels' do, we wouldn't be having this conversation, and she agreed to split the difference as there were no rooms available at those prices; I reluctantly agreed. One bright spot is the downtown core alongside the Truckee River. Had a nice breakfast at the Cafe and the coffee was good from the coffee shop.{/INSERTKEYS}{/PARAGRAPH} The best one, price and comfort wise that we have been consistently happy with is the Peppermill. After a few minutes back at the tables, one of the pit bosses came and said he needed to have a word with us. I would recommend a single king for added space, and when we asked for a room with a view we were instantly accommodated. This last weekend Aug 23 two of us were having a particularly good run at one of the blackjack tables, we were up almost ten thousand dollars!! Sometimes we leave at the end of the weekend up hundreds or even thousands of dollars as a group. Several major restaurants open on our last visit Red Lobster and a large Irish Pub have closed and there are lots of vagrants and cheap liquor stores, run down motor lodges, pawn shops and convenience stores strewn throughout the area. The decor was fine and the only complaints were quite minor the caulking in the bathroom was peeling in places and we were given a minimum of towels. I found the room to have a run-down look, dingy bedspreads, cracked tub caulking, main door and bathroom doors didn't close well, etc. We gambled on slots and a little bit of roulette. We cashed out that night and took the entire office out to eat at one of the fine resturants there. We frequently stay in Reno since we live nearby when we are on our way out on an airplane and we have stayed in many of the hotels. So every time we came or went with our balloon or needed to get something out of our car or use the car we had to wait for a valet runner to drive us over to the lot and of course "tip" them every time we were there for 5 nights and this got very expensive not to mention how inconvenient it was. Comfortable, plush beds, great restaurants and friendly people. Plus the air conditioner didn't work so we moved the next morning to another room. It took us about 10 minutes of standing in line to get checked in. First problem We stayed one night in this room thinking things would improve, but to our dismay the bed was like sleeping on a rock with cardboard over the top and the pillow was a hard square of something? The elevators upstairs are very quick and it was nice to have a security guard there to make sure only guests went upstairs. We usually are lucky to just break even and the casino simply didn't like us to be winning any money. Back to the Silver Legacy We found the hotel room to be just fine. They were rude and smug! The bed was comfortable and the room quiet. That trip we booked 15 rooms for three nights each almost five thousand dollars and spent perhaps another five thousand on food and drinks. First off - the Hotel and Casino. Our best gambling took place at the latter two casinos, the Silver Legacy's Casino seemed tight, but I understand that may be a warped perception based on a short stay. Check in was not as efficient as I would have expected but I've been through worse. Its completely traumatizing to know you slept in a bed with HUGE bugs! After the dinner which cost between two and three thousand dollars, as there were over thirty people eating and drinking we went back to the casino floor and began gambling again. Overall, we had a nice stay but we are concerned by the apparent economic decline of this town that we have visited four times now in 12 years. They said they had a procedure to follow in order to refund us our money--apparently this happens all the time at the Silver Legacy! In years past the Legacy was very accomodating to balloonists allowing us to park our very expensive equipment up against the wall in the valet area so they can keep an eye on it. I had stayed at this hotel several times since it was built with no complaints, but it seems to need a face-lift at this point. The staff was also generally friendly as well. The rest of the hotel experience was also pretty good. The Silver Legacy is one of the three nicest places to stay in the downtown area the others being Harrah's and the Siena Hotel and Spa. The filtration systems kept the smoke smell out of the public areas and the place was clean. {PARAGRAPH}{INSERTKEYS}After reporting this to the front desk, they sent up a security gaurd to write a report. We felt that this whole thing was simply a case of poor losers. The decision they made was fundamentally a bad business decision. We have been going to the Great Reno Balloon Race for the last 20 years my husband is a balloon pilot and have stayed at the Legacy for many of the years that the Legacy has been open. I went back into the site, called up my confirmation number, and wrote down the three different rates for my stay Friday, Saturday, and Sunday were all different. This year they were VERY unaccomodating making us and all other balloonists park in the oversized lot that was 6 blocks from the hotel in a bad part of town I know this because I used to live in Reno. I booked my reservation through the hotel's own website and received an email with my confirmation number on it but not the rates for the three nights that I had reserved. I thought the customer was always right???? We had a drink in the Silver Baron Lounge one night and listened to a polished house band that was friendly. The airport shuttle was not timely. They refused to give us a refund even though we had to leave our room early. The next day we talked to the floor supervisor and all he would tell us was that the decision to ban us from playing had been made by the Casino Manager and that it was final. We are truely sad that we don't feel welcome at the casino anymore, we have enjoyed going there for years and over the years have lost tens of thousands of dollars as a group, but the fun we had and the chance to win it back someday kept us coming back. The only issues we wish were handled better include: 1. There was a noticeable police presence which was good and there are efforts underway to transform some of downtown, but it looks like things are not going well. It's hard to understand why a casino that makes millions of dollars per year would ban two players just because they had a good winning streak, but that's exactly what happened. One employee we spoke with said that the nation's economic downturn has hit the casino industry hard, and the proliferation of Indian casinos have left fewer people inclined to fly to Reno. More often we leave at the end of the weekend having lost all the money we brought to gamble with. Most of the money we won on the night we were kicked out we ended up spending at the shops and resturants there or losing the money at one of their competitors. After this last visit, we decided that that would be our last trip to the Legacy and perhaps our last trip to Reno altogether. Same awesome view, same hard bed but it didn't smell like smoke. That would be my advise for anyone wanting to have a comfortable nights sleep. I showed the desk clerk my hand-written rates and she said those couldn't be correct. This was reinforced by how few people were in the hotel, the airport and in all of the casino's we visited. I havent stopped itching for days! I'm not sure where to start I thought people were just being over sensitive on the reviews I read prior to booking our room this year, but they are right about the hotel going downhill. We decided to go play at the El Durado casino which is attached to the Legacy and after about an hour there we were asked to not play blackjack there either! They didnt even offer to give us another room. A check of the real estate ads showed a significant price drop in homes from our last visit and there were several ad sections featuring foreclosed homes for sale. The Silver Legacy connects to the Eldorado and Circus Circus properties a small step down in terms of quality from the other two , giving you lots of gambling and eating options without ever stepping outside. When we checked out I got the hotel manager who happened to be a snot nosed kid who advised me that just because I didn't like the bed didn't mean that they weren't good beds. Upon arriving, I was handed a check-in notice with much higher rates on it. I then asked for a manager and she said the same thing. There was enough staff at the front desk to accommodate people more quickly, but only a couple of people were actively engaged in this process. We ended the trip having collectivly lost or spending over ten thousand dollars. He said "you're welcome to play any of our casino games here but we don't want you playing blackjack here anymore". We decided to wait until the next morning to talk to the manager and in the mean time we walked over to Harrah's Casino and promptly lost most of our winnings from the Legacy. We watched the kayakers play in the whitewater and did some people watching from the Sierra Nevada Tap Room. Also, they do not include a coffee-maker in the room so we were forced to go downstairs and buy a coffee at their cafe each morning. He took some pictures and collected some of the bugs for his report. Several other casinos in the downtown area have gone out of business since we visited in the 90's, and others Fitzgeralds and Cal Neva have pretty much become dives sorry If you want to take a cab or the No. As for the Legacy Now it's up to you to decide where to stay! The economic decline of this town is apparent. Second problem As I said, we are balloonists and so we tow our balloon behind us on a small trailer. It is nice you don't have to pay for a taxi though to get to most of the casinos. In the past we have always been treated very good. We've stayed at the Legacy many times in the last years. There were a few other restaurants in this area too and I even saw a couple of anglers trying their luck for brown trout. When we asked why they had changed their policy the kid told us that Gary Carano, who owns the hotel, had given instructions that only Mercedes, Lexus, Corvettes and the like were allowed to leave their cars parked against the wall in valet. We usually bring down the entire office and all 30 people enjoy gambling and dining at the casino. This hardly ever happens and we were excited that we were winning for once. There was no apology.
