Fun in the Smoky Mountains - Bryson City - Cherokee - Deep Creek

My sister, some friends and I stayed in Gatlinburg , and we just visited the Tennessee side of the park. We'll be leaving Raleigh that first morning, and I'm hoping we can grab lunch in Asheville on our way. I'm trying to decide between Bryson City and Cherokee. Happy planning! We missed that last year as well. I was looking at staying in Asheville but it looks a little far from the park. Log in to get trip updates and message other travelers. Thank you so much for the helpful responses. Cherokee is a neat spot to drive though, but as we are not gamblers, the current main draw is of no interest. Cherokee is closer to Clingman's Dome. I'd really like to stay somewhere where we we'd be able to enjoy a beautiful sunset and an early morning hike in the park, so I'd like to be close by. In essence, what I'm saying is that by using MV you stop sooner and avail yourself of easier park access, plus better options for a room and meals than BC or Cherokee. Bryson City or Cherokee? Great Smoky Mountains All forums. Maggie is also conveniently located to Cataloochee if you're interested in visiting that part of the park. Report inappropriate content. Cherokee is only after the mathematically challenged population. For us, Bryson City and Asheville would trump Cherokee in a heartbeat.

First, thanks to everyone on this board for your helpful responses. Soco Falls is a beautiful waterfall located in between Maggie and Cherokee best us poker 2020 does not require a hike, just a scramble down the hill to the observation deck.

Browse forums All Browse by destination. You can get your sunset and your hike. I just found out that late this October I'll be going to Raleigh for a few days for work, and my sister is going to join me to travel around for a few days.

Re: Bryson City or Cherokee? I should maybe start a new thread, but since you all are familiar with the area, where are your favorite sunset spots? From there its a short drive to any of the trailheads on - the Chimneys being the most popular.

Let me throw another idea in here for you to consider. We just loved the area bryson city to cherokee much last year. Watch this Topic. Those addresses will almost certainly back up to Jonathon Creek, which means the sound of the creek will lull you to sleep at night. Members who are bryson city to cherokee about this destination and volunteer their time to answer bryson city to cherokee questions.

And what are your favorite short around 4 miles hikes? ReidAdair 3, forum posts. I had been looking at Andrews Bald, but the Chimney Tops hike Bassbum mentioned also looks beautiful! When is the best time to Visit? This post has been removed at the author's request. My suggestion would be to stay in Maggie Valley. My personal favorite is The Valley Inn. Posts on the Tripadvisor forums may be edited for a short period of time. If you are OK with small mom and pop hotels rather than fancy chains, you'll appreciate the hotels in Maggie. So I'm not sure we'll have time, but I'm wondering if maybe we should try to catch the sunset up by Clingman's Dome after one of those hikes with sweeping views like Andrews Bald or Chimney Tops , and then maybe grab a lower waterfall viewing-type hike in the morning. Since you'll obviously be coming in over westbound I, you'll be most likely taking Exit 27 to get to Rte 19 into Cherokee or Bryson City. Maggie Valley has many nice motels and eateries but it also has access to the Blue Ridge Parkway which will bring you out 20 miles down next to the park VC in Cherokee - a much better road that the state highways. GoldRushJunkie 6, forum posts. That drive is a must-do on our list, I just thought we'd be doing it automatically! Where can I read general information about the national park? Concur with Hunt- Bryson City without question. They're only about 25 minutes away from each other. Once the edit period has expired, authors may update their posts by removing and reposting them. Our favorite trails there were around the abandoned tunnel. I loved Bryson City - a small town that makes you feel like you stepped back in time. There ended up being a decent-sized storm and we didn't really get to hike much, and I completely regretted that. Here is a link to pictures and information on it. I'm so glad I asked here! Deep Creek at Bryson City has a great trail that includes 3 waterfalls. You'll enjoy the quaint town of Bryson City much more than the tackiness of Cherokee. Is one town closer than the other to great trails? Level Contributor. Bryson City and Cherokee are both next to the park, so I guess you need to see which is closest to the hikes you are interested in. Bassbum makes an excellent suggestion. Maggie Valley is usually my home base when I stay on the NC side for the simple fact that the BRP makes an excellent route for getting into the national park because for me, the drive is part of the experience. I didn't realize we'd need to do a significant amount of backtracking if we stayed in Bryson City , and Cherokee sounds like the most conveniently located spot for us, but maybe not our cup of tea. As you've read above, outside of Unto These Hills , the Museum of the Cherokee, and the Co-op across from the museum, much of Cherokee receives very low grades here. What would you recommend to someone with very limited time? Since I'm really not familiar with the area, I assumed we'd be taking the BRP in to any of these towns, the fact that we can take it from Maggie Valley to Cherokee is a big plus. I looked up the mileage, but since I'm not familiar with the roads, is one town more convenient than the other to access Clingman's Dome? The author may repost if desired. We'll definitely consider Maggie Valley! Andy Taylor, the owner, has been exceptionally helpful and kind each time I've stayed with them. Ask a question. I've had a great time reading the information here!
